He was a Catholic fiction writer, poet, dramaturg and journalist. As a child, he was left to the care of his grandfather and uncles in Pega, where he finished elementary school, which he had started in Carvalhal Me\u00e3o. He was sent by his father to the ecclesiastical world and studied at the Guarda Seminary. He was consecrated a priest on 17-12-1904. He served as parish priest at Bendada and Almeida. In 1917, he decided on a military career as a chaplain in the 12th Infantry Regiment of Guarda. He lived mostly in the city of Guarda, visiting the capital to accompany and promote his literary work. He played an important role in welfare initiatives, such as founding the Lact\u00e1rio, an institution for pre-school children. Alongside his army career, he never stopped celebrating the Holy Eucharist. He joined the reserve in 1937, in the rank of captain, to which he had been promoted on 11-03-1922. He held the post of secretary of the Guard’s Recruitment and Reserve District until he retired on December 16, 1951, moving shortly afterwards to Avenida Visconde Valmor in Lisbon.
