About
The proximity of the Mondego River contributed to this, as several factories were built to transform dirty wool into washed and spun wool, using the driving force of water, known as mills. The ideal raw material for this product is churra do campo and churra mondegueira wool, sourced from various parts of the country. Today, blankets are still woven on handmade looms. Papa blankets are characteristic of the region and are still part of the daily life of our shepherds and are used in many homes for warmth, on beds, for decoration and in innovative products such as coats, trainers, slippers, etc. More traditional blankets include the shepherd's blanket or muddy blanket, the lobeira blanket, also known as the Spanish blanket, the Ribatejo blanket and the yellow blanket, the embroidered blanket, the white blanket with three stripes at the head, the white (raw) blanket, and monochrome blankets (in blue, yellow, green, red, etc.).
