A Viagem do Elefante (The Elephant's Journey), by José Saramago, the Portuguese Nobel Prize winner for Literature, published in 2008, describes the long journey of an Indian elephant, named Salomão, from Belém - in Lisbon - to Austria, as a wedding present from King João III to the Austrian Archduke Maximilian II.
