The village has a parish church (Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Graça) dating from around 1810, a chapel and a mortuary. The centenary school in Avelãs da Ribeira was built thanks to one of the great intellectuals of his time, Damião Francisco Alves de Moura who, along with several contemporaries, endeavoured to bring changes to people's mindsets and contributed to major reforms in agriculture. At that time, the school was already designed for both genders and there were separate classrooms in each section of the building. During a time when public funds were limited and there was a lack of money in the town halls this merchant, who started his career in Guarda before leaving for Brazil, contributed to the construction of the school, one of the most emblematic buildings in the area.In addition to the local businesses, the century-old school and the Roman-style bridge, one of the symbols of Avelãs da Ribeira, there are also many green valleys and rural paths that can be used for ecotours and long walks. There are several water fountains: Chafariz da Bica, Chafariz da Mija Velha and Chafariz da Portela. There is another fountain near Corredoura, on the main street where General Massena's troops passed during the Third Invasion of the Troops of France, a place where military parades took place.
