The monument is dedicated to Father Dr Francisco dos Prazeres (1849-1918), a notable man from Guarda who was the driving force behind the old Santa Casa da Misericórdia Hospital, which opened in 1907, at the same time as the Souza Martins Sanatorium.

A sculpted stone bust from the first half of the 20th century, it imposes itself on the viewer on a tall, sturdy parallelepiped pedestal, topped by a frieze, with inscriptions on the front alluding to the honoured man ‘To Dr. Francisco dos Prazeres 1849 - 1918 Benefactor of Guarda and Founder of the Hospital’.
