Monument to the Dead of the Great War

It is iconographically represented with national symbols in relief, namely the national coat of arms, as well as inscriptions alluding to the dead of the Great War. At the base, bearing witness to later interventions, there is a bronze tombstone with the symbol of the ‘Combatants’ League’ and the inscription “To the Combatants Killed for the Homeland / Homage to the Combatants of the Great War / XI -1918 XI-1968”. The monument was inaugurated during the ‘centenary’ celebrations between 28 and 31 July 1940.This monument is located in the centre of the José de Lemos Garden.
