Miguel de Unamuno y Jugo (1864 - 1936) Spanish essayist, novelist, playwright, poet and philosopher, was born in the Basque city of Bilbao. His artistic work includes the novels "Paz en la guerra" (1897), about the Carlist wars; "Niebla" (1914), in which autobiographical elements abound; "Abel Sánchez" (1917); "La tía Tula" (1921) and "San Manuel Bueno, Mártir" (1931). Also worth mentioning are his books of poems "Rosario de sonetos líricos" (1911) and "El Cristo de Velázquez" (1920). He also cultivated travel literature, "Por terras de Portugal y España" (1911), and theater, "Fedra".
